has come under criticism recently because of recent and consecutive
poor run of displays and performances from the spanish striker.The
madrid born striker left anfield for stamford brigde for a record fee
of £50million in 2011 just before the end of the january transfer
window.
Torres,Nicknammed El nìno,[the spanish kid] started playing at
atletico madrid and moved in the summer of 2007 for a fee of around
£21.5million to liverpool.He adapted swiftly and scored 33goals in all
competitions for the english club,hence surpassing ruud van
nistelrooy's record as the most prolific foreign debutant in english
football and maintaining a high strike rate for the anfield outfit.
In his subsequent seasons[2008-2010] at 'pool,.the striker wrapped up
a total of 41 goals in 69 EPL games for rafa benitez men.His career
went low in 2010 campaign as he suffered a dip in form as he struggled
with injuries towards the end of the campaign,however he won the world
cup with spain in that same year.
In 2010/2011 season,roy hogdson[now english national team coach]
replaced rafa benitez at liverpool and torres failed to perform with
speculation rising that 'his heart was no longer with the club'.He
requested for a transfer and he got it as he was transfered to
stamford brigde for a record fee of £50million.,becoming the fourth
most expensive player of all time.
The 28-year-old moved to chelsea and couldn't settle down well at the
brigde,that however proved to be a turning point in his goal-scoring
career.With myriad of minutes played for the blues,torres couldnt find
the net,and could only get just one goal in 14appearances for chelsea
in 2010/2011 season.
He was unable to find consistency under carlo ancelloti and andre
villa boas,he wont be forgotten so soon for his goal-miss against
manchester united with the match ending in a 3-1 scoreline in favour
of the red devils.It was like his display was getting to him and he
began to get less confident and many would have noticed as he started
getting afraid to shoot at goal for fear of missing target.
The striker played second fiddle to didier drogba at chelsea during
the last days of the ivorian striker,el nìno,a player who was once
labelled the most feared in the Premier league had turned to a
harmless and less-teriffic striker.Torres once denied that he said
'chelsea players are quit old and that they dont play fast and pacy
games',that came after he was criticised for his goal drought in
2011/2012 season,playing 32 EPL games and scoring a meagre 6goals.
Even with the poor form ,toress got a goal in the UCL game against FCB
enroute to chelsea's first champions league glory,he also,with the
blues won the FA cup in 2012.Toress got the golden boot in euro 2012
as spain won the competition as well.
The striker has had 19appearances this season for the blues,netting
7goals in all competition[played 12games in the EPL,and recording just
4goals].
Fernando torres who had 73 goals in 93 EPL appearances for liverpool
has now diminished in returns,netting a pea of 11 goals in 58
appearances,almost a ratio of a goal in 5matches,awkward! The striker
must however regain his momentum and goal scoring ability as roberto
di matteo is already eyeing and planning to land atlètico madrid's hit
man radamel falcao come january.
