When a team is struggling to pick up points,question marks begin to hang over their manager.Fans begin to get uncomfortable with the prospect of relegation & consequently ask for their manager's head.The business nature of the premier league means a relegated club will lose up to £40m-£50m in sponsorship,TV rights & other perks that comes with being a premier league club.
These are the early contenders for the unwanted title of 'first manager to get fired';
Mark Hughes(QPR)
Rangers currently lie 20th on the log,with a meagre 3points out of a possible 27.At this stage last season,they had 12points & still couldn't guarantee their top flight status till that mad cap final day @ eastlands.
In the summer,Sparky basically recruited a new team,he brought in a raft of has-beens who's wage bill cost about 200% of QPR's annual turn over! Bad business if you ask me.
Although chairman,Tony Fernandes has been vocal in his support of Sparky,I don't see that continuing for much longer if results doesn't improve dramatically.
Next 3 games:Reading,Stoke,Southampton
Nigel Adkins (Southampton)
Now Mr.Adkins is a very likable bloke,he saved the Saints' from the brink of extinction & guided them to two successive promotions enroute to the premeir league.I reckon those achievements will buy him some time.But how much longer is the question.
The saints' are decent going forward & seems to have goals in them but they just can't keep things tight at the back,can they?
They have conceded 26goals,a premier league record after 9games.That says a lot.
Next 3 games:WBA,Swansea,QPR.
Brian McDermott(Reading)
I don't think McDermott did himself a lot of good in the summer,because this team looks deficient in quality.You know the kinda cutting edge quality that win games.At the moment,they have thrown away a whooping 10 points from winning positions,more than any other team in the league.
The story might change if the royals reinforce in january but will Brian McDermott still be around by then?
Next 3games:QPR,Norwich,Everton.
